Although we specialize in new Custom Homes, we are a full-service drywall company and many people feel that we offer the best drywall services in Southern California. Even after 37 years, we are still growing and have two office locations to help you with all of your custom drywall needs. About Us
Background
Mark started Volk Drywall in 1987 and we received our license from the Contractors State License Board that very same year. Mark is the son of the largest union drywall contractor of the 70’s and is an expert in the drywall industry who has been working since 1976. That means Mark has 48 years of experience working with drywall! He also holds a US patent for a drywall finishing tool he invented and is sold throughout the United States.
Here at Volk Drywall, we have drywalled more high-end custom homes than any other active company in the Southern California (as of January 1, 2023 over 2,900 custom homes…one at a time!!). We are proud to be known as the “Custom Home Specialists.” Even though we specialize in high-end custom homes, we are a full service drywall company that has extensive experience on large-scale commercial projects. We understand how important it is for your business that we complete our projects on time and beautifully.
Most of our business comes from repeat customers and referrals, so we work hard to satisfy our customers’ expectations. From the first sheet of drywall to the last inch of sanding, our proven system has been applied to hundreds of projects. The best part about our monitoring system is that it includes you, because we make sure that you know of any necessary job changes, backing it up with our commitment to the best service.

Venetian Plaster
Venetian plaster is type of wall and ceiling finish that is sure to blow anyone away! Through crafted, artisan techniques, Volk Drywall can add a touch of class to any house or project using this type of finish. Venetian plaster looks like it has the strength of natural stone with the beauty and elegance of a marble texture. There are many different color choices for Venetian plaster and endless combinations to choose from. We also offer Lime-based and acrylic-based finishes which add another dimension of variety and beauty. Venetian plaster is more durable than paint and looks absolutely amazing. Premier Finishes
Level 5 Smooth Wall
This finish is the smoothest of the smooth! This is a very popular type of finish but is difficult to execute to get that perfect smooth surface that makes this finish so desirable. This also happens to be Volk Drywall’s specialty and as always you are guaranteed a quality, smooth finish that you won’t get anywhere else.
Santa Fe Smooth (Catface)
The Santa Fe Smooth finish is a very popular, contemporary finish that takes its name from its resemblance to the adobe structures of Southwestern Native Americans found in the capital city of New Mexico. One of the best ways to describe this texture is that it looks like two smooth layers stacked on top of each other and can be applied in a wide range of coverage to give each project a unique feeling.
Skip Trowel
Skip trowel is another popular type of finish. It requires a very special technique that we have mastered. It can best be described as resembling Santa Fe Smooth but being much deeper, rounder feeling than the Santa Fe Smooth finish.

Fry Reglet Architectural Metals
Fry Reglet is a specific brand that offers high-quality, unique architectural metals and materials. We use these specialized products for very specific types of projects. Fry Reglet Architectural Metals have both function and form with a contemporary modern look paired with structural integrity. We primarily use Fry Reglet Architectural Metals for designer Details, recessed baseboards, door moldings, and linear A/C diffusers.

Specialty Services
Custom Steel Stud Framing
We provide high-quality light-gage custom interior framing. Metal stud framing has many advantages over wood. It is very resistant to the elements such as fire, insects, and rot. They are perfectly straight and don’t warp the way that wood does. It’s also easy to store and if in the future you decide to expand or change the design of your house, it’s easy to move and shift.
Architectural Foam Moldings
Architectural foam moldings are expanded polystyrene foam that can be crafted, shaped, and formed into an unlimited variety of configurations. We create detailed crown moldings, domes, and arches that are used to add architectural substance to buildings and draw the eyes to appreciate elegant, sophisticated homes. Volk Drywall has extensive experience in crafting, applying, and finishing foam moldings to give a house an added adornment.
Sound Proofing
Having a custom home theater or game room with just the right acoustics is no simple task. Volk Drywall is experienced in creating just the right environment for your entertainment needs. By using a combination of Sound Isolation Clips with Resilient Channel, QuietRock, High density mats or Sound Board we can reduce Sound Transmission Class (STC) by up to 100%. Specialty Wallboards
Wallboard has many advantages as a building material. Depending on the environment, a different type of wallboard may be more advantageous than another. Ranging from moisture and mold resistance to fire resistance or high impact and abuse, there are many different types of wallboard available. Below are seven types of wallboards that we use, however these aren’t the only types of wallboard available. Q: How long have you been in business and what kind of work do you do?
A: Volk Drywall has been in business since 1987 and is a full service company with a significant emphasis on Smooth Wall (level 5) Custom Homes. We have completed more custom homes than any other active drywall company located in Southern California!
Q: How good is your work?
A: Our quality is “Top Notch.” Our employees are highly trained and no one does finer work! Working primarily on high end Custom Homes day in and day out we know what it takes to do the job right. Nothing is too hard for us and anything you may need is probably something we have already done before.
Q: Are you very expensive?
A: By being in business for 37 years we have built strong relationships with our employees. Some have been with us for over thirty years! That’s longer than most companies have even been in business! Our people know Custom Homes, that’s what we do, we do a lot of them and we believe that we do them better! Q: How long does it take to complete a Custom Home?
A: About 3 to 4 weeks depending on several factors which include weather conditions, drying conditions and complexity of the project.
Q: Why is your proposal sometimes less than the price quoted by the guy I used before?
A: Sometimes new customers come to us wanting an explanation as to why “their guy” that they have used in the past is so much more expensive than us. The answer is usually threefold:

First, we have standardized our pricing which translates into a consistent bid price even if the work is more complex than the average project.

Second, we have a great relationship with some of the nation’s largest supply companies. This provides us with a competitive advantage including deep supply resources, greater service and better pricing which allows us to provide the best finished product at the best price possible.

Third, and most importantly, “their guy” may be overcharging them. Some drywall contractors begin to feel secure after working for their customer for a length of time. They sometimes feel that they should be paid more money because they are “so good” or have given their customer “such good service in the past.” We don’t work like that. We give ALL our customers the same consistent pricing job after job and never, never cut back on quality or service!
Q: Do you do steel stud framing?
A: Yes. Mostly light gage steel stud framing. Over the years we have completed dozens of projects ranging from small tenant improvements to many of the well known chain stores including Arco, Chevron, Ethan Allen, Starbucks, Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald’s, Wienerschnizel, Taco Bell, Home Base, Home Depot, Sam’s Club and Best Buy.
Q: Have you ever been in the news or have any articles been written about your company?
A: Yes. Walls & Ceilings, the most widely circulated drywall trade magazine, recognizes us as one of the premier custom home drywall companies in the country. We have had several articles written about us over the years and have been featured on the cover as well. Also, they come to us at times with questions ranging from our perspective on the economy to “the right way to finish drywall.” We have two of the articles posted under "The Press" section of the website.
Q: Why should I choose your company to drywall my Custom Home?
A: Because we know what we are doing. We don’t pretend to know how to drywall Custom Homes, we know how! This has been our business for 37 years! We are very proud of the fact that we have been in business for more than three decades doing just that....Custom Homes.
While many other companies will try to hide the fact that they are new to the business or boast that they have “X” amount of “combined years” of experience, don’t be fooled by that.
